ALEX MOFIDI ELECTED TO AWWA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We are proud to announce that Alex has been elected to serve as a Director from the Pacific Northwest Section (PNWS-AWWA) of the American Water Works Association. His three-year term runs from 2025-2028 where he concurrently holds positions on the Executive Committee of the PNWS Board of Directors as well as the AWWA Board of Directors that represent all 43 sections.

Alex has been an AWWA member since 1992 and has contributed extensively to the organization throughout the years. He is a current member of the AWWA Distribution System Committee (2008-present), a past-Chair of the AWWA Premise Plumbing Committee, and Chair of a team developing revisions to AWWA Standard C651 to include procedures for disinfecting premise plumbing in new and renovated buildings.

Alex was recognized by the PNWS for his commitment to advancing drinking water quality as the 2023 recipient of the John A. Lechner Award of Excellence. Since joining the PNWS section in 2008, Alex has played an active role, including serving as Trustee-at-large on the PNWS Board of Directors (2018-2020), Chair of the Research Committee (2016-2018), and Chair of the Information Technology Committee (2009-2011).

WATER RESEARCH FOUNDATION 5299

Confluence is excited to announce the award of funding for Water Research Foundation (WRF) Project 5299, the Assessment of Corrosion Control Treatment (CCT) Pipe Rig Study Data Compared to Distribution System Lead Levels. Confluence President, Melinda Friedman, is serving as Principal Investigator, with Co-Investigators from Arcadis, Carollo Engineers, HDR Engineering, and Cornwell Engineering Group. WRF 5299 is addressing discrepancies between pipe rig and full-scale lead data to ensure the appropriate selection of corrosion control treatment under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, building confidence in long-term treatment decisions.

ALEX MOFIDI PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE AT CONFLUENCE

Since joining Confluence in 2016, Alex has led numerous projects supporting water treatment design, corrosion control optimization, Legionella risk management, distribution system management and optimization, and more. In 2025, Alex was promoted to Associate as a recognition of his leadership and industry expertise. Within this role, Alex focuses on building industry partnerships and pursuing business endeavors that continue to further the advancement of drinking water quality.

ALEX MOFIDI RECIEVES AWWA JOHN LECHNER AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Alex has spent 30+ years working within and contributing to the advancement of drinking water quality from source to tap, as a utility employee, a consultant, and an AWWA officer and volunteer. His dedication has greatly benefited the drinking water community and has furthered AWWA’s Mission and goals in accordance with recognition bestowed by the John Lechner Award. Congratulations Alex! Here he is celebrating the award with his proud wife Tracey by his side.

MELINDA FRIEDMAN IS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2022 A.P. BLACK RESEARCH AWARD

ANDREW HILL PUBLISHED MANGANESE ARTICLE IN AWWA OPFLOW (JANUARY, 2022)

Andrew has been working with the AWWA Manganese Subcommittee to develop and publish a series of important articles on manganese in drinking water. The most recent article focuses risks of legacy manganese accumulation and release in distribution systems.
